Corey Portugal
Corey is a former Marine Corps Sergeant (E-5) who served from 2015 to 2019. The military taught him how to break complex systems into testable components, write documentation that enables delegation, and build clear context so teams execute with confidence. Those principles now guide how he architects AI systems. In 2023, he began developing a restaurant concept in Boulder, Colorado and taught himself AI architecture to solve a specific problem: how to make AI understand the complete operational context of a venue. That eighteen-month effort became the technical foundation for QuixSpec.
Chris Schneider
Chris brings twenty years of hospitality experience to QuixSpec, including roles as a bar owner and financial manager. He currently hosts The Bar Business Podcast, reaching thousands of operators weekly. His career taught him that the best operators understand their business deeply. But understanding and having time to translate that into actionable insights are two different things when you're in the middle of another Saturday night. Chris ensures every feature we build answers one question: does this help an operator make a real decision during a real shift?
Zach Tuchman
Zach spent fifteen years forecasting revenue streams for oil and gas projects, managing billion-dollar valuations across six continents and over 40 countries. He holds an MBA and Master of Science in Finance. His experience consulting for international clients and applying forecasting techniques at institutional-grade scale taught him key lessons on creating and defending asset-level revenue forecasts. Zach applies his rigorous forecasting discipline to ensure our predictions perform in real operating conditions—where the numbers have to hold up when it matters.
Our Story
Zach and Chris had been friends for over twenty years. Chris spent those years deep in hospitality—owning bars, managing financials, and eventually consulting for operators across the country. Zach built his career consulting for international energy companies in Dallas, Texas.
In 2023, Corey reached out to Chris for advice on a restaurant concept he was developing in Boulder, Colorado. The conversation surfaced a shared frustration: operators had data everywhere but clarity nowhere. Chris recognized the opportunity—Corey's technical capabilities, his own industry knowledge, and Zach's forecasting expertise were the right combination to bring real business intelligence to independent operators. By the summer of 2025, the three were at Chris's home in Brown County, Indiana prototyping the product. They haven't stopped building since.
